Garden cress is a peppery-leafed vegetable, having small white flowers, when mature, and small round seeds. In addition to the leaves, the seeds and roots may also be eaten. The seeds may be sprouted, as well, and the roots have a flavor similar to horseradish. The seeds are a featured component of a sweet in India called Aliv Ladoo, made with coconut and garden cress seeds, Aliv seeds are believed to be beneficial to pregnant women. Also popular in Greece, garden cress is called Kardamo. There are some leaf variations of this fast-growing perennial, from simple lobed to curly.
