[Dutch] plural Elstars

A medium-sized juicy, slightly sweet, eating apple raised in the Netherlands by T Visser of the Instituut voor de Veredeling van Tuinbouwgewassen in Wageningen as a cross between Ingrid Marie and Golden Delicious and introduced commercially in 1972. It has greenish-yellow skin flushed blushed with bright red. It is a popular apple across Europe but doesn't do particularly well in the United Kingdom. It is a mid-season variety which is harvested from early October in South-East England and is at its best from late October to December.
