A stylish, small, round disc of firm, white goat's cheese made from raw milk. It is a curd cheese decorated with a bay leaf. Available plain or with fresh herbs and garlic. Twice winner of the Bronze Medal at the British Cheese Awards.
A dual-purpose variety of apple with a dull, reddish-brown flush raised by Mr George Wheeler at Penn Yan in New York in 1791. The nursery was bought by Mr Abraham Wagener in 1796 and the apple was subsequently sent to England where it was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Merit in 1910. This late-season variety is harvested from early to mid-October in South-East England and is at its best from December to April. It is used as a cooker early in the season.
A plate which is at the table when the diner arrives or which is put in front of the diner at any time when food is not actually being served. This is done in restaurants where they feel that no customer should ever be seen without a plate in front of them.
