A small variety of bright orange to red chilli, thin, pointed and hot.
Mastic. A resin tapped from plants, such as lentesk, around the Mediterranean, and used in some places in cooking.
Moth bean. Sometimes called the brown lentil. A tiny pulse which, because it is small and dark, is often adulterated, so needs careful picking over.
Like the blackbean, this bean is highly toxic unless it undergoes a great deal of treatment, in the form of baking, ground and then washed in running water for a long time. Also like the blackbeanm this is found in the tropical north east of Queensland.
Atlantic rock oyster. A variety of oyster up to 15 cm (6") in length found on the American side of the Atlantic. Unlike many oysters this is usually cooked, served on the half shell. This is because it is quite a fatty oyster, particularly when large, which is improved by cooking. All down the eastern seaboard the Atlantic oyster is called after the area in which it is found, e.g. the Long Island oyster, Chesapeake Bay oysters and so on. The best known is probably the bluepoint.
