Fan mussel. A shellfish which grows up to 40 cm (16") long but which otherwise has the appearance of a large, slightly elongated mussel. The adductor muscle is edible.
Farmhouse describes the conditions in which a cheese is made. An individual producer collects milk from animals raised on their own farm and the cheese is then made using traditional methods. Only milk from that producer and only raw milk may be used.
White domecap mushroom. A mushroom that appears in autumn (US: fall) and which may be eaten but is not particularly desirable. It is found growing in the grass in dense woodlands.
A sausage casing made from the large intestine of a pig or cow. The latter provides a larger bung. These are for large sausages of 5-10 cm (2-4 inch) diameter.
Fat Tuesday is a direct translation of Mardi Gras, mardi meaning Tuesday and gras meaning fat. It is the day before Ash Wednesday. It is a day for celebration and excessive eating and drinking before the fast of Lent.
