brown sugar

Brown sugar is unrefined sugar. It can be anything from pale tan to dark brown in colour and may have added molasses. It can have tiny crystals making it dense and almost damp in texture, or have quite large, free-flowing crystals. Brown sugar includes muscovado and Demerara sugar (US: light brown (granulated) sugar).
