Custard apple or sitaphal. A fruit with a knobbly green and black skin and creamy white flesh inside. It has large black seeds. More commonly wheat flour.

Wheat flour. Fine wholemeal flour used in most Indian breads. It is also a type of fruit.

Sun dried paddy. Rice which has been husked, but not parboiled.

Fine wholemeal flour used to make chapattis, parathas and puris.

There are three harvests of rice in a good year in Bengal. These are aman, boro and aush. Aush is the rice planted around August to September for harvesting in late monsoon. Siddharth Dasgupta tells me that they all learned about these rotations in school but that this expression is never used in common urban parlance.
